Swing Dancing

Here are some pictures of Dakota swing dancing last night at the banquet. I hear he danced with some others too. I'm hoping to get more pictures

Jr. / Sr. Banquet

Tonight was our homeschool group Jr. / Sr. Banquet. Yes, Monday night is an odd time to hold this event, but our group has so many activities going on it was the only night of the week that we did not have something on the calendar. We are so blessed with an active group.

The theme was "Hollywood"

Dakota decided not to wear a tie.

Dakota said he had a great time. After dinner they had swing dancing. I've been told that someone will be emailing me pictures of Dakota dancing. I'll post when I get them.

Saturday Soccer

Our homeschool group is part of ALCAL sports league. We have soccer, baseball, basketball and volleyball teams. Our teams play other teams in the ALCAL league, which is a group of private schools. I'm so glad we have this to offer our homeschool kids.

Elijah played soccer last spring and is playing again this spring. Saturday was our first day of games. Elijah had 3 games. His team won the first game 5-0, the other team didn't show up for the second game and they won the third game 3-0.

Elijah likes to play goalie so he doesn't have to run.

Elijah and one of the Slocum boys. The Slocum boys are twins and I can not tell them apart even after having them in co-op classes for two years. One of them has a freckle close to his right eye. Even if I could see the freckle, I still don't know which one has the freckle.
I just wonder if their mom and dad can tell them apart. I do know this about the Slocum boys...They are GREAT soccer players! I just holler Go Slocum! I figure that takes care of who ever it is.

He's running! Elijah did run the ball some, he just gives out very quickly. I told his coach not to think twice about taking him out of the game to let him rest and someone else play.

It was a fun day, but we all got sunburned! Next week I'll actually use the sunscreen and not leave it in the van.

Winter Formal

Backing up to post some pictures of Dakota from the Winter Formal our homeschool group had in January.

Before Dakota went to Winter Formal we went to the Ouachita River and I took some pictures of him. It was a VERY cold evening, but I got some really nice shots.
Here are my two favorite pictures.

First Day Of Spring

Today was a perfect day to head to the zoo with some friends. The weather was beautiful!

We strolled around the zoo for a few hours then went to the river and had lunch.

Here is Elijah and his buddy sitting at the river visiting.

Elijah with another buddy at the zoo.

Dakota took this picture. Even though I don't like flowers, I think it is a good picture.

Social Studies Fair

Friday was the Social Studies and Science Fair for our homeschool group. Elijah did his project on Ancient Egypt.
He had fun working on his project and learning about Egypt. I'll admit he only worked on his project for a couple of days. Next year I'll make sure he has a couple of weeks to work on it no matter how busy we are.

He was so nervous about telling about his project, but I'm sure he did great. The pyramid sitting on the table is made with fun foam. Elijah and Jody also made a mummy.
Yes, I do know that the Egypt flag, shown on his board, is of modern day and not ancient, but Elijah wanted it on his board. After all it was HIS project.

We were very pleased that Elijah got second place and we were thrilled for Colby who got first place. I know that Colby worked on his project for awhile and I could over hear him telling the judges about his project, he did a very good job talking.

Elijah has a style of his own. I don't guess many people have seen this kind of tie. I can't even remember what you call it. I googled and can't find it. It's a Tommy Hilfiger tie that ties with the skinny part in front of the wide part. The sales lady showed it to us and we liked it because it was different. If you know about this type of tie please let me know what it is called.
Elijah got his hat for Christmas and he wears it all the time. I want to take him and get some funky pictures made with his hat and tie.
On the morning of the SS fair I told Elijah he looked nice. He said "I look like someone whose mama dressed them!" LOL

It was a great day and I think it is so good for Elijah to do the Science and Social Studies Fair.
Dakota used to do it every year when he was little.

Elijah at ULM

I have mentioned Elijah and his class at the college many times and several have asked me what is he doing at college.

Graduate students at the college need children to work with. They are required to get so many clinical hours. In August of 2006, I inquired about the speech and hearing clinic. Elijah had a couple of words he pronounced odd and he was having trouble hearing rhyming words.

Elijah loved going to college! He spent 2 semesters in the speech clinic then he moved to the literacy clinic and he has completed two semesters there. Clinic is held twice a week.

In the literacy clinic they work on reading and writing. I count it as part of our schooling.

This summer Elijah has been attending the summer session 4 days a week. August 29 is the last day.

Elijah loves to tell his friends he goes to college!

Bowling

The boys enjoy going to bowling with our homeschool group the last Friday of each month. Sometimes Jody and I bowl too.

I'm so glad we are having it in the summer, it's cheap, $3 a bowler and it's in the air conditioning!

Here's Elijah trying to look like he knows what he is doing.

I see Elijah and his friend, Julianna, high fiving each other. Dakota is in the background wearing a green shirt about to bowl.

Elijah fell asleep in the van on the way home so Dakota took a picture because Elijah always says he didn't fall asleep when we say he did. Bowling wore him out!
He always has a good time at bowling.

Basketball for Elijah

We have a great homeschool group with a cool basketball team. Last week our girl's basketball coach, Mrs. Kim, and the highschool bball players put on a basketball camp for grades 1st - 6th.

Elijah loved it! Everyday he kept his basketball in his hands all day long. I heard dribble dribble dribble over and over. I had to have him put the ball down to take a bath and to leave it by the front door so he could go to bed.

We had to go buy a new rim and backboard for our pole. That has kept Elijah busy every evening. He has improved a lot just by practicing everyday.

We also had to go buy basketball shoes and shorts by the end of the week. Gotta look cool to play bball!

This next school year he wants to play Upward Basketball. It's a Christian ministry sponsored by a local church. They pair kids up by abilities and really teach them to play basketball. He is looking forward to this starting, but I don't think it starts until about November. Until then he will be hanging out at the rec with some CHA basketball players.

Here are some pictures of Elijah during bball camp. He has so much fun, he hated for the last day to come.

**More basketball news from the Miller family coming soon! This will be a shocker!!**

The Zoo

It is too hot to be going to the zoo! I do not plan to return to the zoo until winter.
Me, Dakota, Elijah, my niece Jennifer, and great niece Hannah took a little trip to our zoo.
It was really too hot to even enjoy the zoo. I'll share a few pictures of the kids.

I like how this picture turned out with the reflection in the water.

Elijah, Hannah and Dakota. You pretty much have to hold Hannah anywhere you want her to stand or she will take off. She's not much for standing still for pictures.

Elijah with his new haircut. Don't you know that has to be cooler for him.

Soccer!

Elijah played soccer with our homeschool team this year. It was a lot of fun!

He is not very athletic and not a great soccer player, but he had fun and I had fun watching him and all the other kids run around chasing a ball. They were all so cute!

Here are some snap shots of Elijah at games or practice.

My little Tiger Scout!

Elijah is now a Tiger Scout. He joined scouts last week and is already selling popcorn. Yesterday we sat with other moms and cub scouts outside of Books A Million and sold popcorn. Elijah sold nearly $100 worth.

He is so excited about scouts and going camping at Mom & Me.

I ended up being the Tiger group leader. I've been planning some activities for meetings. I think we will have a lot of fun!
