NO LOST!

I just don't understand this. What could possibly be so important that it would keep LOST from coming on?

No boxes for Wednesday and Thursday for us.

We have co-op on Wednesday and Thursday.

I just remembered we don't do school Monday - Friday like most do. We school Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Our weekends are Tuesday and Wednesday.
We normally take Tuesday off because Dad is home and we do family stuff. Dad is also off on Wednesday, but we committed to co-op before his schedule change.

Wednesday and Thursday count as school days, Elijah just doesn't know that.

Elijah asked to stay home from co-op to do boxes! I just find that so funny.

Dakota just come told me he is staying home tomorrow because he has to finish a project he should have already finished.

I may be the only one going to co-op. LOL

What's in Tuesday's boxes?

I'm ditching some of the things we normally do for school because the sci/ss fair is Friday and we have to get Elijah's ss project finished tomorrow because we won't be home Wednesday and Thursday (co-op).

1. word search book
2. Egypt coloring pages for his ss board
3. make your own calendar project
4. read a book on Egypt mummies
5. mini book about mummies
6. CH worksheet from enchanted learning
7. read about the Nile River
8. Nile river coloring and folding project
9. math file folder game
10. skill workbook
11. Egypt copy work
12. As Elijah finishes coloring pages or mini books on Egypt I want him to put them in box 12 so when he get to this box he can glue pictures on ss board.

Our new school system!

I'm so excited about work boxes. You can read about the work box system on Sue Patrick's website.

I was needing something to change up our schooling. Something that would help me do more with Elijah and make use of all these resources I own. I have a ton of kits and hands on stuff that I never get around to pulling out.

If you know me you know that I'm a very laid back homeschooler, almost an unschooler so this has to be a simple system for me to even think about doing it.
I would not do anything that was going to cause me more stress!

Here's how it works. At night I'll look around the schoolroom and pull out 12 things I want Elijah to do the next day. I'll put those items (one per box) in our twelve work boxes we have set up. The next morning Elijah will do whatever is in box one and then put that book or activity away before moving on to box two. When he finishes box 12 he is finished with school. On days we will head out the door in the middle of the morning he'll only have a few boxes to do.

Elijah was so excited to get started on his boxes.
Here is what I put in the boxes.
1. math book
2. foam pyramid project (SS fair is Friday)
3. how to draw Egypt stuff book
4. writing workbook
5. a wooden pig, paper plate, paper towel, paint brush & cup for water
6. our FIAR book and activity
7. cards with the number words for one through twenty for Elijah to put in order at the pocket chart
8. skill workbook
9. geography flash cards
10. scrabble apple (this is like the banana grams that Rock Solid sells, but I found this at Wal-Mart with the card games)
11. subtraction cube
12. make your own mummy project

This is the perfect system for ME. I'm so excited that all these resources I have will be getting used. No more, what do I do next questions. Most of the boxes Elijah can do on his own, but some will be boxes for us to work on together.
So where did I find the stand and boxes? Target!
The stand was in an orange box on the closet organizing isle. It is a shoe rack for $15. The boxes are on the plastic isle for $1 a box.
It's all very simple to put together!
In Sue Patrick's method she numbers the boxes 1 - 12 and has the numbers on with Velcro and a chart to put the numbers on when the child finished a box. That seems like over kill or making something simple more complicated to me and Elijah knows numbers in order so I did our boxes a little different. Elijah needs practice on reading so I wrote the number words out for his boxes.
We are changing our school room theme to a space theme so I found some little rockets and wrote the number words on them. I taped the rockets on the boxes with packaging tape.
I'm sure I'll be posting more about this system.

I'm BACK

I'm back and I mean it this time!

My life has been so crazy busy, no wonder I'm so tired.
We are on the go go go and I want to slow down. I need to slow down.

I'm trying to get off cokes. I often say I have coca-cola running through my veins, that's how much coke I normaly drink.
I've been doing pretty good with that, but there have been a few days were I had an awful headache that only a coke could help.
One coke a week is so much better than what I used to drink.

I'm also trying to eat better. I usually wake up and go all day without eating anything then around 3PM I'm sick. That is so bad for a fat woman to do because the body tells it'self to hold on to the fat cells. Then I eat at night after Elijah has gone to bed, again that is so bad. Eating at night is the worst time to eat.
So now I have been eating a simple breakfast such as two eggs and an orange, yogurt for snack, turkey wrap for lunch and a big salad for dinner. I do eat more on some days and we still eat out some, but I'm making better choices. Oh and I'm drinking my water.

I've been walking at the college and I bought myself a bicycle! Yes, a bicycle! My legs haven't got used to riding it yet, but I'll keep working at it.

Please pray for me to keep it up if you think about it!

Pet Snake

Elijah begs for a pet snake. We have not had luck with pet snakes in the past. We can't keep em alive.
One day our outside dog was barking like crazy at this snake so Elijah grabbed him up and claimed him as a pet. He had to come inside to get dressed for town and the snake got away.
Elijah was so sad, but he was a very happy owner of a snake for a short while.

Deadbeat Blogger!

I've been called a deadbeat blogger a few times now, so I'm really going to try to do better.
I was on a roll but then co-op started and our life got so busy. We were only home one day a week most weeks and we tried to fit some school in if we were not too worn out. The co-op semester ended in November and we have been taking turns being sick and then all decided to be sick at the same time. We are finally better and I'm ready to blog. I do want to go back and finish the post on Elijah's disease so I will catch up with that. I have a lot of other catch up post coming also.
